DEPARTMENT OF JAIN DARSHAN (CORE SUBJECT)
Jain Philosophy is one of the most oldest and important thinking traditions of India. It has its own realistic approach about the things and ideas. It deals with reality, cosmology, epistemology and Vitalism. From the Vedic period two different current of thought and ways of life are known as (a) Sramana and (b) Brahman. That is why from ancient times we have the Sramana literature that has made manifold contributions to Indian culture through its unique tradition of the religion of non- violence, non- possessiveness, the philosophy of multiple facets of reality and trust and unbroken line of numerous great works in Prakrit and Sanskrit languages. With the view of the above facts the teaching, study, research and understanding of the Jain religion and philosophy a department of Jain Darshan (Jain Philosophy) was started in the year 1978 in Shri Digamber Jain Acharya Sanskrit College, Jaipur. The department offers courses Shastri (Bachelor of Arts) Acharya (Master of Arts) and Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D.)
A variety of teaching learning techniques is employed to impart knowledge and skills to students by the department. From time to time department organizes lectures of scholars of National and International repute. Every year it celebrates the Birth Anniversary of Pt. Chainsukh Das Nyayateerth on which it invites eminent scholars to deliver lectures on Jain Philosophy.
Besides this, the Institution is established as a research center of Jain Darshan and so far 25 Ph.D’s and 8 M.Phil’s are awarded to the scholars. At present the department has two faculty members.

DEPARTMENT OF SAHITYA (CORE SUBJECT)
The Department of Sanskrit Sahitya comes under the Faculty of Sanskrit Literature and commenced operations way back in 1978. It aims to train students who are oriented towards research and teaching in advanced areas of Vedanta, Nyaya, Yoga and Sahitya. The department offers Sanskrit Sahitya at Shastri(B.A), Acharya(M.A) and Vidyavaridhi(Ph.D) level.
Department of Sanskrit Sahitya by different methods like workshops, memorial talks and extension lectures try to establish and expand the growing relevance of Sanskrit studies in various new areas. Any study regarding India and its culture is not fruitful without the proper knowledge of Sanskrit. Hence any new emerging areas of study in philosophy, language studies, technical studies, the Sanskrit Sahitya Department has its own place. Presently there is one faculty member in this department:

DEPARTMENT OF PRAKRIT JAINAGAM (CORE SUBJECT)
Prakrit language has been a link between old Indo-Āryan and middle Indo-Āryan languages. Lord Mahavir’s preaching was orally complied by his disciples i.e Ganadharas and Srut- kevalis into many texts. These are written in the Prakrit language. In fact, the cultural heritage of India has been preserved in the literature and inscriptions of Prakrit language. The zeal to learn Prakrit and further critical study of Prakrit texts has increased in some Institutions and universities of India during last few years. Therefore to preserve this ancient language from getting obsolete and for reading of several texts of Jainagam the Department Of Prakrit Jainagam was established in the year 1978 in SDJASM. Since then many eminent scholars have done the task of imparting knowledge of this language. The department offers Prakrit at Shastri (B.A), Acharya (M.A) and Vidyavaridhi ( Ph.D) level. Some research work has also been done on Prakrit Texts and till now 2 Ph.D’s and 2 M. Phil degrees are awarded to the scholars.

SANSKRIT VANMAYA
Established in 1978, the Department of Sanskrit at Shri Digamber Jain Acharya Sanskrit College promotes the appreciation of this rich and scientific language, crucial to the understanding of several Indian cultural, philosophical and religious traditions. The thrust areas of the course are Vedic and Upanishadic lore, history of ancient Indian cultures, Philosophy, Arthashastra and other areas of Indology.
The faculty approaches the study of Sanskrit not merely as a language but as a subject that sensitizes students to its role as a repository of Indian culture, ethical values and Vedic mathematics. Faculty member also encourage fluency in speaking the language.
The learning of students is enriched in various ways through a number of educational activities conducted within and outside the Department. The department of Sanskrit has always been proactive and has invited eminent scholars to disseminate their knowledge and their expertise. Every year the department organizes a 7 day “Sanskrit Sambhashan Shivir” for its students to assist them with Sanskrit language. In this camp great scholars are invited to teach the basics of Sanskrit language.
Besides this, the department also organizes Sanskrit Shlok Antyakshari, Shalaka Pratiyogita, Vaad- Vivad Pratiyogita to check the learning skills of students.
Students of the Sanskrit Department study epigraphy and archaeology and hence are eligible to pursue a Master’s Degree (Acharya) in this field. Students of Sanskrit are in demand in museums, manuscript studies and fields related to archaeology. Other career options include teaching and translation work.
The course places emphasis on specific aspects of India’s intellectual traditions which are relevant to contemporary discourses in diverse disciplines both in the humanities and sciences. The department offers Sanskrit Sahitya at Shastri (B.A), Acharya( M.A) and Vidyavaridhi (Ph.D)level. Till date 8 Ph.D’s are awarded in this subject. ENGLISH
The overall mission of the English Department is to promote literacy–specifically the ability to read, write, and think critically. Literate individuals can gather, analyze, and communicate information effectively as well as think creatively and draw independent conclusions–skills that are the cornerstone of a healthy democracy and key to the future of an urban area in an increasingly information-based economy.
The department offers English Literature and Compulsory English at Shastri level (B.A).The course has been methodically designed to explore world literature, Indian literature and literature in translation. The classes are lively, interactive spaces where students are encouraged to share their own perceptions, ask searching questions, and engage in discussions in an atmosphere that fosters self-expression balanced with respect for the right of others to voice their opinions. This spirit is nurtured in a changing classroom that has seen a widening of the student base to include students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and learning curves. In fact, this extreme diversity becomes a pedagogic tool since the faculty believes that validating the experiences of the diverse student body is an important aspect of the pedagogic goal in a Literature classroom that sees Literature not as an ivory tower product but a contextually produced and socially mediated process.
The department organizes extra-curricular activities, in addition to lectures and interactive sessions with eminent scholars. The department has been able to nurture the talents of the students as this is evident from the fact that students perform exceptionally well and receive awards at competitions organized at State, District and Zonal level.At present the department has two faculty members:

HINDI
Shri Digamber Jain Acharya Sanskrit College enhances the interpretative and expressive skills of students in an intellectual environment that is stimulating and nurturing. It equips students with both a rigorous knowledge of the Hindi subject as well as a critical and analytical ability.
The department of Hindi offers Hindi Literature and Compulsory Hindi as a subject at Shastri (B.A) Level. Students with a keen interest in the language and the astuteness to explore various aspects of the Indian social tapestry and history through language and literature can benefit tremendously from it. Overall, the subject of Hindi connects students to a glorious past, explores the creative genius of many writers, fuels the power of the imagination and sensitizes them towards many issues existing in the contemporary world.
